When and Why Clean a Cartridge Filter?

Like any type of pool filter, the cartridge filter becomes clogged as it filters and collects dirt from the pool water. The more clogged it becomes, the less effective the filtration. During operation, this type of filter requires 1 to 3 weekly cleanings depending on usage and the pool's exposure. When you notice that the water is no longer being drawn properly (the water seems to stagnate in the skimmer) or, worse, that the suction hose tends to get pinched even though you have regularly cleaned the filter, it's time to replace it.

Hard water? You must use a water hardness stabilizer: Calcinex Pool. Cleaning with a garden hose will remove larger debris (organic waste, hair).

To remove limescale, iron, and other mineral deposits from the filter, it is recommended to soak the cartridge in a solution of Filtercleaner or Decalcit Filter. Let it soak for at least 1 hour. Always rinse the cartridge with a garden hose before putting it back in the filter.
